 The problem that I'm having is trying to replace the ignition switch myself but I'm unable to find step by step instructions or even a picture to do so. Can anyone guide me with some precise instructions because the mechanics want to charge $278 to do the job although I never understood if the ignition switch and the housing is know as the same thing on this model car.

 my husband and i changed the ignition switch ourselves on our saturn sl1 but explaining it would be hard. because first we turned the key in the ACC/RUN POSITION and then removed the covering to steering column. after doing so you must remove the ignition itself without turning the key off but you must pull the entire ignition down and look for the ignition switch itself. once you find it just pull the cords from the switch and replace it. but when replacing the ignition itself be very careful because when you first remove it it'll be tricky trying to remember how it was taken out. afterwards replace everything else and turn the car off and wait a few seconds before restarting the car. IF YOU HAVE AN ALARM ON THE CAR PLEASE DISARM IT FIRST BEFORE STARTING. IF NOT IT'LL MAKE MATTERS WORST.
